President Benigno Aquino III recently visited Canada to meet with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Ottawa and sign several bilateral agreements expected to boost trade and security for the benefit of the Philippines and Canada. He also visited Toronto and Vancouver and met with the local Filipino communities who were more than happy to welcome the President and cabinet secretaries Cesar Purisima of Finance, Rosalinda Baldoz of Labor, Gregory Domingo of Trade, NEDA head Arsenio Balisacan, Herminio Coloma Jr. of Presidential Communications Operations, Julia Abad of Presidential Management Staff, Jose Almendras of the Cabinet and Undersecretary Laura del Rosario of Foreign Affairs.
The trip was President Aquino’s first state visit to Canada, upon the invitation of Governor General David Johnson. He also passed by Chicago on a working visit prior to visiting Canada.
